Three highlights can be experienced on this concert evening: The unique and unique WDR Funkhausorchester, the great conductor and pianist Wayne Marschall and the "Rhapsody in Blue" - a crowd puller that celebrates its birthday.

100 years ago, George Gershwin wrote music history in New York with the world premiere of his "Rhapsody in Blue". The audience – including Igor Stravinsky, Georg Kreisler and Sergei Rachmaninov – was ecstatic. Since then, the "Rhapsody in Blue" has been considered the American concert piece par excellence: cheerful, jazzy, sentimental and always with a wink.

To mark the milestone birthday of the "Rhapsody in Blue", the WDR Funkhausorchester is going on tour with its former chief conductor Wayne Marshall.

The program includes highlights from Gershwin's great Broadway successes, from "Porgy and Bess", his most beautiful songs for orchestra, the ravishing "Mississippi Suite" by Ferde Grofé (who orchestrated "Rhapsody") and, of course, the birthday boy, Rhapsody himself.
