I am very excited to launch my new website. I hope that it gives the viewers an overall idea of my music, my concerts and my career so far. Whilst the website designers do the final touches to the “look” of this website I have something to share with you. Last week I was in Vienna, conducting the RSO Wien, for a concert at the Musikverein. The programme consisted of a work by various contemporary British composers called Bright Cecilia followed by the two-piano concerto of Martinu. The second half consisted of the wonderful work by Gustav Holst, The Planets. During the week, the rehearsals were going smoothly, but in the third day of rehearsals I received a phone call from one of the pianists saying that he has been held in Miami for questioning. Naturally I was shocked to hear that he was even considered a suspect of some kind. Since he was held at the airport he missed his connection to London and then the ongoing connection to Vienna. To make matters worse, many flights were cancelled during this week because of the snow storms. Somehow he managed to find a flight that would take him from Miami via Dallas then on to Paris and finally with a stroke of luck to Vienna. He finally arrived in Vienna two days later than originally intended but still in time for the first orchestral rehearsal. Needless to say, his luggage did not turn up and so he had to go and buy a new suit for the concert. All in all we had an extremely successful concert with a touch of drama. It is always wonderful to be performing at the Musikverein especially to a packed house.
